Your Body is a Business

It’s still close enough to the New Year to talk about resolutions, changing your daily regimen, and subsequently improving your life.

Like most people, I knowingly partook in an excessive amount of tasty snacks and delicious foods over the holidays. That, and the fact that the human body naturally wants to pack on fat to protect itself from the cold weather, left me with the most popular New Year’s resolution out there. I told myself I would jumpstart a new regimen on January 1st, watch my diet, and get my body back into the shape it once was.

After what has now been a few weeks, I have come to a helpful realization that allows this rant about health and well-being to relate to the topics normally discussed on this blog.

Like running a business, your body (and your habits) take some time to mold. It takes time to see success, no matter how hard you’re working.

The food you consume is the knowledge you gain at the workplace. It’s the fuel you need to reach your goals. If you are learning materials outside of your arena, it won’t be as helpful, but constantly studying up on your industry is the ideal nutrition you need to get stronger.

The strenuous workout everyday is the project you have to spend overtime on. If you don’t go above and beyond, you won’t see the results you want.

Although this analogy may be obvious and short-lived, it’s a testament to the fact that success does not come easy. Success takes time. If you keep working hard at something, stay focused, and know what you’re reaching for, you’ll start seeing results quicker, remain positive throughout the journey, and have something to celebrate when you get to the end.

Here’s to a successful 2011 and to achieving all of your goals this year!
