A few months ago, a team member of mine accessed one of our servers via FTP remotely from their own local machine. A day later, we noticed that the entire server was hacked and all of the sites were down (and infected). I immediately tried to solve the riddle by checking log files and trying to identify a footprint that would eventually trace back to the cause.
The underlying element to what turned out to be a horror that still haunts us today was that not everybody on our team's computers are protected as well as they should be. Even though they work remotely, I did a poor job of making sure that they have the right tools and level of security to deal with our important projects. Needless to say, I have since elevated all of our access requirements and increased the security on all of our servers.
Most people overlook the fact that having someone access an important area on the web can be dangerous. All it takes is a bot of malware that captures usernames and passwords and stores them for a hacker. Then, that individual has as much access as you do. That's scary.
After all of this, I turned to a tool that I knew I could trust - a tool called Bitdefender Total Security. It goes above and beyond some of the other security softwares out there today. Best of all, it doesn't slow down your computer as much as the others do.
For 2013, they implemented something called SafePay, which supplies another layer of protection when buying online. They've also deployed functions called Autopilot, Anti-Theft, and even social network protection. They've really thought of everything in this latest version.
Do yourself a favor and check out Bitdefender Total Security. Trust me when I tell you that you definitely do not want to go through what I have been through recently.
